54th SEMDSA Congress
DATE: 3 - 5 April 2020
VENUE: Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani, Durban
Dear friends and colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to invite you to join us for the 54th Congress of the Society for Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes of South Africa (SEMDSA) to be held at the Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani in Durban from 3 -5 April 2020. We are thrilled to be hosting the 2020 Congress and look forward to this being a productive, exciting and memorable meeting.
SEMDSA is open to all persons involved in Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, and aims to improve clinical practice and promote clinical and scientific research into all branches of this field, for the well-being of people living with diabetes and related disorders. With the dramatic rise in the burden of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in South Africa over the past few decades, the organization has played a leading role in setting professional guidelines, maintaining academic training standards, providing guidance and advice on relevant policy, and promoting equal access to health services for all sectors of society.
To this end, the Organizing Committee has been working toward compiling a relevant, exciting and innovative program, with a host of dynamic local and international speakers. The program offers a unique opportunity for people with diabetes, health professionals and scientists to share their knowledge, experience and insight, present their research, and keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of Diabetes, Metabolism and Endocrinology.
In addition to the formal scientific program, a pre-Congress workshop on diabetic retinopathy screening will be held on Thursday, 2nd April 2020.
For our visitors from abroad, Durban is South Africa’s ‘holiday city’ located on the eastern African seaboard and known for its beautiful sandy beaches and year-long subtropical weather. It is a vibrant hub of culture, commerce and innovation. The Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani is a symbolic hotel and conferencing venue on Durban’s Promenade, better known as the ‘Golden Mile’, and offers panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, modern style and comfort, and easy access to the sights, sounds and tastes of Durban.
As Chairperson of the Organising Committee, I cordially invite you to attend our Congress and am confident it will provide a fantastic opportunity to participate in the various scientific sessions, to network with colleagues old and new, and thoroughly enjoy the program that has been planned.
We look forward to welcoming you all to Durban in 2020!
